The Sultanate of Oman is a state located in the Asian southeastern portion of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west and Yemen to the southwest. It overlooks the Arabian Sea in the south and east, the Gulf of Oman to the northeast. Oman also belong to the exclaves of Madha and Musandam, bordering the United Arab Emirates; the second is bathed by the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

From the seventeenth century Oman had its own colonial empire, competing with Portugal and the UK to control the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. In the nineteenth century, the period of maximum splendor, the influence of this political and economic empire arrived in Iran, Pakistan and, to the south, Zanzibar [. The twentieth century saw instead the sharp economic decline of the sultanate, whose prosperity was based on being a flourishing market for weapons and slaves, activity reached a crisis point.

Because of this decline Oman fell under the heavy influence of the United Kingdom, while not becoming never part of his empire, nor a protectorate. Traditionally, the sultanate is close to the United Kingdom and the United States, but has always maintained its sovereignty and today maintains an independent foreign policy.

Oman is an absolute monarchy ruled by a sultan, but its parliament has some legislative powers and control. In November 2010, the UNDP, of 135 countries considered, ranked Oman as the State that has had the greatest socio-economic development over the past 40 years; the Sultanate is considered one of the most developed and stable among the Arab countries.

For all of the above traveling in Oman is particularly important to assess what may be the opportunity to work in a country with the characteristics and quality of life mentioned above.

with which it is in contact since last March to assess any assignments.
